Getting back into a hobby after a hiatus is never as easy as when you last left it. But once you slow down and get into a rhythm things start to fall into place again, and you get into a rhythm.
With oils I absolutely love the smooth, buttery textures you can achieve with the right amount of medium, and how lights, mid-tones and shadows can mould into each other. And in the process finding the emotion of the sitter, shaping their identity and story.
Of course brushwork and application needs improvement, particularly around the mouth, and I need to not be afraid of rendering imperfections. But it’s a starting point and keen to see where it could go.
